Wonder what happens at Redeemer during the week? We use our church buildings that God has so richly blessed us with to bless other organizations and people throughout Charleston. This past week our senior pastor welcomed top executives from Cru to Charleston and Redeemer. They used our sanctuary and newly renovated Fellowship Hall. We’re so happy to use our space for God’s glory!
On Saturday, January 27 as part of our Missions Emphasis weekend at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, we hosted our Lowcountry Presbytery–both men and women leaders–at Redeemer for breakfast, worship, lunch, and meetings. With over 85 people served at lunch, our staff called on our Redeemer family at large to help set up, register attendees, make chili and cornbread, set tables, prepare desserts, clean up, and welcome our guests. We recruited community groups and other volunteers to help host, and our church family came together to be warm, welcoming, and hospitable. We demonstrated the gospel–freely giving to others what we have received. Thank you to all who helped in myriad ways–at last count it was over 50 individuals that came together to make this event wonderful! And our newly remodeled Fellowship Hall was beautiful!
Join us next Sunday, February 11 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, when we’ll host St. John’s Reformed Episcopal Church, our neighbors just a few blocks away on Anson Street, for a big joint worship service here at Redeemer at our usual time of 10:30 am. Our choirs are planning some special music together for the service; Rev. Willie Hill will preach, and our senior pastor Craig Bailey will lead the worship.
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28
Afterwards we’ll enjoy desserts, sandwiches, and coffee at a reception in our Fellowship Hall as we get to know our neighbors. Join us for worship–across cultures, races, and denominations!
In 2018 our Redeemer church family will be learning and encouraging the memorization of The New City Catechism, which comprises only 52 questions and answers (as opposed to Heidelberg’s 129 or Westminster Shorter’s 107). There is, therefore, only one question and answer for each week of the year, making it simple to fit into church calendars and achievable for people with demanding schedules. Our Christian-education classes will incorporate the learning of these questions and answers into our current curriculum. We’ll also incorporate these questions and answers into the worship service each Sunday. We’ll provide more details as January 2018 unfolds, but there’s plenty of information about the questions, reasons for catechizing, explanations for a new catechism, links to the devotional book and mobile apps, and more at their website.
Though our Sunday worship service had to be canceled, Redeemer Presbyterian Church did look so pretty in the snow! Our red doors and black wrought-iron gates made a beautiful contrast to the white fluffy snow. As Charleston, SC, thaws this week and kids head back to school, we can remember the beauty and be thankful our warm weather returns soon.

Children of all ages are welcome to participate in this service; our nurseries will be open for parents to use, but we will not have any volunteers or staff working that evening.
Since we spent over four years in our beloved Deuteronomy sermon series at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, we’ve had lots of babies born–babies we’ve dubbed “Deuteronomy Babies.” On our last Sunday in Deuteronomy, we attempted a picture with Pastor Craig and all the babies. It was chaotic to say the least!
