As the world counts down the shopping days until Christmas, we anticipate the Advent season. The word “advent” means the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. As Christians we celebrate Advent–the arrival of Jesus, the Savior of the world–for the four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day.
For this year, Redeemer is planning a special series during the Christian-Ed. hour for the whole church family to celebrate Advent together. We invite you to join us, beginning Sunday, November 30, as children and adults together hear the Gospel message told through the story of Advent.
Why are we celebrating this Advent season with children and adults together in the same class? As we adults hear familiar stories contextualized for children, we
- gain a new understanding of God’s truth as it’s simply told
- see the contagious excitement of children as they anticipate Jesus’ birth
- learn from a fresh perspective as we hear familiar stories presented to a different audience
This four-week series will be a wonderful opportunity to invite unchurched friends and neighbors–especially those with children–to learn together as a family about the meaning of Christmas.
November 30: Jesus Is the Light of the World!
Focusing on Isaiah 9, we’ll discover why Jesus had to come as a baby into our dark world and learn to focus on His light this Christmas season.
December 7: Nothing Is Impossible with God!
We’ll learn the story of Zechariah and Mary, how both of them had a special announcement from an angel but how they reacted differently. We’ll see that we can face our problems with the knowledge that with God all things are possible!
December 14: Make Room in Your Heart for Jesus!
This week focuses on the traditional Bible story and manger scene. We’ll learn to make room in our hearts and lives for Jesus this Christmas, just like the innkeeper made room for baby Jesus in his stable.
December 21: Jesus Is the Best Gift!
We’ll discover that Jesus is a gift to the whole world regardless of age or stature, and we’ll celebrate Jesus’ birth and have the opportunity to invite Jesus into our own lives.
