Are you a medical wife? Do you know any residents’ wives or doctors’ wives who are new to Charleston? Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, is proud to partner with the Charleston chapter of Side By Side, a ministry of CMDA for medical wives. Side By Side is a non-denominational, Bible-based ministry that seeks to encourage, support, and minister to women in medical marriages through fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. They seek to help connect the wives of medical and dental students, residents, fellows, staff physicians, and dentists here in Charleston.
With Redeemer’s proximity to MUSC, we worship with many medical families, including Dan & Emma Flaugher who moved to Charleston a few years ago. Emma is the coordinator of the Charleston chapter of Side By Side, and she shares a little of her experience below:
Side by Side was like life-support for me when I first arrived in Charleston. I knew nobody, felt extremely isolated, and my husband’s residency demanded 99% of his time. It was through community with those women that I grew in my faith and dependence on Christ, learned to love and support my husband in the midst of his crazy schedule, and made lifelong friendships. This isn’t a group that nibbles on appetizers and exchanges niceties; this is a life-giving network of women who deeply care for one another and desire to walk this road together, side by side.”
Side By Side kicks off during the summer months as new students and residents move into Charleston. Contact Emma directly to learn more about this vital ministry to the medical community, and join their Facebook group.
