The Lord’s Prayer: Forgive Us Our Debts | Sermon, June 2

Redeemer Presbyterian Church, Charleston, SC

We returned to the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 on Sunday, June 2 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC. Our senior pastor reviewed the first four petitions of the prayer from earlier sermons in our Matthew sermon series.

While “our daily bread” focuses on the body, “forgive us our debts” deals with our souls. We must take care of our souls. Prayer as Jesus intends (based on this passage of Scripture) is first and foremost fixed on God. In our prayers, we must tell ourselves three things:

  1. the truth about God
  2. the truth about ourselves
  3. the truth about forgiveness
