Join us at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, for these upcoming, special events for winter 2020. To get this information (and more!) delivered to your inbox each week, subscribe to our weekly email newsletter The Tuesday Blast.
Redeemer Women’s Event: Mark your calendars, ladies, for a church-wide women’s event on Saturday, March 14 from 10 am to 2 pm in our Fellowship Hall. The ladies from the James Island CG will host this casual event that will include a continental breakfast and a light lunch, fellowship and mingling with women from other CGs, and a special message from our pastor’s wife Kathy. Because of the length of this event, childcare won’t be available. Nursing infants, however, are welcome with their mothers. We hope you’ll join us, and please RSVP here so we’ll have enough food prepared.
Walk for Water: Join Redeemer’s Walk for Water team this year on Saturday, March 21 at 9 am at Riverfront Park in North Charleston. Get more information here about joining the Redeemer team and donating toward our team goal! Reach out to Thomas Szymanski, our team captain, with questions. And check out pictures from our previous walks!
Church Picnic: Join the Redeemer church family for the first church-wide picnic of the year! We’ll gather on Sunday, March 29 following the Equip Hour for a picnic lunch at Mt. Pleasant’s Memorial Waterfront Park (99 Harry M. Hallman, Jr. Blvd., 29464). Bring a picnic lunch for your family, a blanket and chairs, and a football or frisbee. There’s plenty of green space and shade, wide open spaces, and playgrounds for older kids and younger. Come enjoy Redeemer friends and families for fellowship and fun!
Easter Events List: Yes, Easter week is coming soon! So mark your calendars for these Redeemer events to help you and your family remember, prepare for, and celebrate the Risen King!
1. Palm Sunday, April 5: Redeemer Kids will sing and help the choir lead worship during our 10 am worship service! We’ll have Equip classes following the worship service as usual.
2. Seder Passover Meals Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8: Two options for attending our popular event beginning at 6 pm. We’ll cater the meal as we did last year, and we’ll require RSVPs and $10/person or $25/family to help cover the costs of the catering. Childcare for children under 4 will also be available both nights. RSVP here and reserve childcare. If you’re interested and able to help set up for the Seder events, contact Rosie Riddle.
3. Good Friday Service, April 10: During this special somber worship service at 7 pm in our sanctuary, we’ll meditate on Christ’s last seven sayings from the cross. Families are encouraged to worship together, and nurseries will be open for use but not staffed with volunteers for this event.
4. Easter Sunday Breakfast, April 12: Join us early for a potluck breakfast at 8:30 am in our Fellowship Hall. Redeemer Kids will enjoy a special Easter craft downstairs in their rooms at 9:15 am.
5. Easter Sunday, April 12: We’ll celebrate Christ the Risen King in our one worship service at 10 am! No Equip classes to follow on that Sunday.
2020 Biblical Change Conference – Defining Moments in Marriage: The Lowcountry Biblical Counseling Center is hosting a marriage conference on Saturday, March 7 featuring Dave Harvey, author of When Sinners Say, “I Do.” Find more information here.
Membership at Redeemer: If you’re interested in joining the Redeemer family, the first step is to interview with the Session. This informal interview gives a few of the elders the opportunity to get to know you better and offers you the opportunity to ask questions. If you’d like to set up an interview, contact Gray Morgan. (Most interviews are conducted on Sunday mornings.) One of the next steps is our Membership Fundamentals Class; our next class is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
New Season of Community Groups: A new season of Community Groups is here! (Here’s basic CG info on our website.) Joining a community group is a seasonal commitment from September to May each year toward 1) regular attendance, 2) trust, and 3) transparency as the church is scattered into its neighborhoods in between Sundays (when we gather together downtown to worship). We seek to better understand who God is and to explore the incarnation of that truth through the lives of each CG member. We do this by eating a meal together each week, praying together, exploring Scripture, and then also reaching out to neighbors in love and prayer. We’d love to help connect you with a group. Contact Yates Jarvis or Gray Morgan to find a group in your area.
Weekly and Monthly Events
Community Groups: Community Groups are the main ministry of Redeemer outside of Sunday morning. These groups are like “house churches” where we want to live in community with each other like Luke writes about in Acts 2:42-47 because we’re a family on mission together. Find more info here.
Women’s Bible Studies: At Redeemer our women’s Bible studies form through our community groups that meet around the Charleston area. So we have several Bible studies continuing this winter/spring semester that are sprinkled around Charleston. Find a current list here.
Equip Hour on Sundays: Like Sunday School and Christian education, our Equip Hour offers classes for adults, youth, and children following our worship service. Last fall we renamed our Christian Education hour to Equip. This small change is to make clear that the purpose of this hour is not to simply be educated, but rather to be equipped to live out being a Family On Mission Together. Find specific information about our Equip classes for all ages here.
First Wednesday Men’s Luncheon at noon at St. Philip’s Church: Join the men of Redeemer and other downtown churches on the first Wednesday of each month for the First Wednesday Luncheon at St. Philip’s Parish Hall. Come enjoy good food with a requested donation of $10, plus hear a guest speaker each month.
Women’s Prayer Watch on Second Saturday at 7:30 am at RPC: The Lord has delivered us so that we may take an active role in seeing His Kingdom grow here in Charleston. If your heart desires to cry out to the Lord for Redeemer–its leaders, ministries, missionaries, marriages, young adults at school and home, our neighborhood, city, nation, and the church universal, come join us the second Saturday of every month at 7:30 am in Craig’s office on the second floor of the Education Building. Contact Debbie McDowell at 609-217-3170 to let her know you’re coming and to get reminder texts about these prayer times.
